Die Vielfalt der Attraktionen in Palermo ist groß. Wir beginnen unsere kulturelle Tour am Fontana Pretoria. Nur wenige Schritte weiter befindet sich die Chiesa e Monastero di Santa Caterina d’Alessandria, der Anblick dieser Kathedrale raubt uns den Atem. Die Kirchenwände sind überzogen von vielfarbigem Marmor und Stuck. Zahlreiche figürliche Marmorbilder sowie unglaubliche Fresken schmücken die Kapelle. Unser Rundgang führt uns weiter in das angrenzende Kloster mit seinen Zellen, den Hofgarten sowie das Dach mit dem hinreißenden Blick auf Palermos Altstadt. Eine kleine kulinarische Stärkung erhalten wir in der Pasticceria, die sizilianische Köstlichkeiten nach alten Klosterrezepten verkauft. Nach einer kleinen Pause steuern wir unser nächstes kulturelles Highlight an, den Palazzo Reale samt der dortigen Ausstellug zeitgenössischer Kunst. Insbesondere der Glanz der Mosaiken, der die Wände der Capella Palatina schmückt zeigen die Macht und den Reichtum der normannischen Herrscher. Zum Abschluss unserer Tour besichtigen wir noch die Santa Maria dell’Ammiraglio und die Cattedrale di Palermo.

The variety of attractions in Palermo is great. We start our cultural tour at Fontana Pretoria. Just a few steps further is the Chiesa e Monastero di Santa Caterina d’Alessandria, the sight of this cathedral takes our breath away. The church walls are covered with multicolored marble and stucco. Numerous figurative marble paintings as well as incredible frescoes adorn the chapel. Our tour takes us further into the adjoining monastery with its cells, the courtyard garden and the roof with an enchanting view of Palermo’s old town. We get a little culinary refreshment in the Pasticceria, which sells Sicilian delicacies based on old monastery recipes. After a short break we head for our next cultural highlight, the Palazzo Reale including the exhibition of contemporary art there. In particular, the splendor of the mosaics that adorn the walls of the Capella Palatina demonstrate the power and wealth of the Norman rulers. At the end of our tour we visit the Santa Maria dell’Ammiraglio and the Cattedrale di Palermo.
